The Pittsburgh Tenants Organizing Committee is a volunteer-led group of neighbors who want to increase tenant rights in Pittsburgh and reduce the power of landlords. We organize on a building by building basis or across shared private landlords in the area.
How we began
PTOC was formed the summer of 2024 by a handful of Pittsburgh residents who met each other through local social justice orgs such as the Housing Justice Table, CPUSA, Democratic Socialists of America, mutual aid organizing and the Industrial Workers of the World. We formed PTOC as an independent organization. We don’t currently collect dues and our presence and activities are self-started by our members.
What membership means
To join PTOC would mean lending your effort, enthusiasm and perspective to the struggle to win renters more rights in Pittsburgh and Allegheny County and the power to enforce them.
Organizing help is for everyone
Membership with PTOC is not required to organize your building or to get help and resources from our organizers. Currently PTOC is focused on building up and supporting the formation of tenant associations, tenant unions and informal tenant groups in the Pittsburgh area. Any group that may form as a result of PTOC’s help or support will be independent from this Committee.
